Kratom, also known as Mitragyna Speciosa is a relative to the coffee plant. It is a leafy tree that can grow up to 15 meters (45-50 feet) and is found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia, where it has long been used in traditional herbal medicine to treat pain, boost energy, alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms, and promote feelings of wellness and happiness.
Kratom is not a “legal high”, and if you are hoping to get high from Kratom, you will end up being disappointed. It is a gentle herb which can provide a mood lift and stimulation and relaxation, pain relief, as well as focus. Kratom is not unlike caffeine in coffee, but it is a much different feeling and is smoother than caffeine. The duration usually lasts between 2-5 hours. Smaller doses (between 1 and 5 grams) provide energy and stimulation and focus. The more Kratom you take, the more sedating it becomes. Kratom has many antioxidants and can be a healthy alternative to caffeine.
Kratom is often made into a hot tea. This is done by adding a few grams powder or crushed leaf in near-boiling water and letting steep for 15 minutes or so. The Kratom can then be strained out, or the powder can be swallowed with the tea. Many people prefer capsules because they do not like the bitter taste of Kratom tea or powder. Capsules are more convenient for people on-the-go. Kratom dosages usually start around 1-3 grams and can go up to 8 to 10 grams for some people, depending on the persons weight, tolerance, degree of pain relief and other factors. Dosages should always be started low and slowly worked up until your desired dose is found. The trick is finding the perfect medium for yourself and keeping with that desired dose. Too high of doses are not physically dangerous, but can cause nausea. Continuing to increase dosage may increase tolerance.
CAUTION: Your individual sensitivity to Kratom and diverse strains can vary in potency (sometimes quite a lot), therefore these dosage estimates should be regarded as approximations. You should always start with a small dose when analyzing a new batch of Kratom. One can then increase the dose gradually with subsequent experiments until you obtain the desired level of effects.
DO NOT take a large dose ( greater than 5-10 grams), the first time you are sampling a new batch of Kratom. Some people experience nausea or dizziness when using a large dose or a powerful strain of Kratom at lower gram doses. For this reason, it is best to take Kratom on an empty stomach when using strong doses (wait a few hours after eating). Some people can be hypersensitive to Kratom, and may experience adverse reactions to a new strain or "batch" (such as severe and prolonged upset stomach and /or vomiting) when using very strong doses
